My first brushstrokes were inspired and corrected by Franz Probst in Vienna in my teens. Later, in my 20’s I had a small exhibition of water paintings in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia before the brushes were set aside for many years. I became a typesetter and graphic designer before I felt the vocation to teach. Currently, I work as a special aid teacher in elementary school, but spend most of my spare time painting. I am inspired by honesty and a connection to a self as is.
Statement
My artistic work is based on acrylic colours on a big canvas, and are often impressions of humans in solitude and isolation. I find that there must be an artistic void that holds the reality of our existence to be filled by every single individual watching my paintings - as we all carry different genuine stories I want you to remember in my work.
I use large canvases and big brushes and spatels to bring out the feeling of life as a rough patch. Nothing is what is seems to be, everything is seen as a reflection of your mind. And all our minds differ. Life is a journey and contains light and dark patches, therefore I paint the sides of my canvases black. To remind us that we never should forget, but forgive the things that let us down. My light motives always cover a darker motive underneath and my dark motives always started out on happy colours. In a way you get two paintings for one.
As mentioned the sides of my pictures canvas’ are always black to remind you of the contrasts in life and to visualize that everybody experiences hardships and solitude some time. Thus, also the splatters. Human feelings of confusion, hurt or sadness should not be hidden, because shaming of everything that is different or not regarded as perfect, makes it even harder to take part in life. We are all beautiful with our cracks and scars.
Most of my characters are on a mental journey within themselves, and by accepting the darkness in themselves, they see themselves in a brighter light.
