Marie Hanson grew up on a farm near Medicine Lodge, KS, admiring the work of her uncle. Albert Wadsworth was a graphic artist and portraiture and was well known in Wichita art circles. She remembers standing by his side mesmerized by the fluent strokes of his brushes, colors flowing, forming beautiful shapes. Marie painted her first picture, “a disastrous attempt at an abstract” at the age of 21. That painting ended up in the back of a closet and was joined by an occasional painting over the course of decades.
Marie credits her association with the Vernon Filley Art Museum in Pratt, Ks as the catalyst for setting her latent talent in motion. Not only was she a volunteer at the museum, but she also began attending every class they offered. She acquired technical proficiency, as well as inspiration, and by associating with other artists she found the courage to share her art at art fairs. Her art began to sell and with that came the realization she could call herself an Artist.
Marie resides in Pratt, KS with her husband where she continues to volunteer at the Vernon Filley Art Museum.
