Vandy Massey is an English painter with roots firmly planted in the vibrant landscapes of South Africa where she was raised. The echoes of Africa are woven into her art, influencing the way she infuses her work with vibrant energy. She is inspired by the expanse of landscapes and the untamed beauty of natural spaces. The sense of belonging in a place is a theme that underpins all her work
At the heart of her loose and expressive paintings lies a signature style that features strong colour and texture. It’s a style that evolves organically, shaped by an ongoing dance of experimentation with fresh techniques and varied mediums.
She works predominantly in water-based media. The fluidity and liberating essence of watercolour is captivating. She loves the way the paint has a life of its own and thrives on the perpetual tensions between the artist and this medium. The desire to push the boundaries of her creative expression has moved her to include other mediums into her portfolio of artwork. Portfolio includes work in watercolour, acrylics and mixed media.
Vandy chaired the Society of East Anglian Watercolourists for four years. Her work has been selected for national level exhibitions in the UK and has private collectors across the world.
