The spontaneity and translucence of watercolour inspire me. I paint in other mediums from time to time, and my style of work changes over time and with subject matter. I'm always developing new ideas and new working techniques - a practice which brings variety and breadth to my works.
I spent my childhood and early adulthood in South Africa. I love big skies, huge dramatic landscapes, and crashing waves. I try to go back there at least once a year, and when I do, I am reminded of Africa's dry-grass scent, its warmth and its vibrant colours. I'm inspired by strong colours: they evoke joyful energy for me.
Leaving South Africa sparked my curiosity about the world. I travel as much as I can and bring the sights and sounds of new places into my paintings. You'll find influences of Africa, Australia, Japan, France and Italy in my paintings - so far.
