We make promises—some to others, and some to ourselves. These commitments are expressions of love, whether spoken or silently kept. The Promise explores the gifts that arise from a promise freely given: compassion, strength, and trust.
From my Emergent series, The Promise is inspired by the brilliant red amaryllis blooming in my studio. Each day, I am in awe of the transformation it undergoes, as it rises from a single stalk to become a mass of blossoms. As new blooms emerge, the stalk constantly shifts its balance while maintaining its strength, a quiet yet powerful act of support. In return, the blossoms trust that the stalk will continue to bear them, and the stalk, in turn, supports them with compassion, understanding that it is through this connection that they remain beautiful.
This piece reflects how I am feeling these days—promises of possibility are beginning to bloom in every area of my life. I’ve made a promise to myself to explore them all, to bloom with compassion and trust, just as the amaryllis does.
