The cartoonist Liana Finck is a regular contributor to The New Yorker and other publications. She runs a popular Instagram account where her pithy autobiographical sketches receive thousands of likes. She has also published full-length graphic novels such as Let There be Light (2022) and the memoir Passing for Human (2018), in which she recollects the feelings of alienation and awkwardness that have affected her throughout her life. Interviewed about her memoir, she recalled, “I realize I don’t like to draw any character and then I realized you don’t need to make them look like anything. They just need facial expressions. That’s how it feels to be a person. You don’t know what you look like, you just know what you’re feeling.”
