Gifts of Art presents Widgets: Toys for Grown-Ups: Sculpture by Susan Hensel

Sculpture and color have always seemed to be in opposition, a paradox for me. When my wide ranging art practice returned to carving and constructing small objects, the need for color, for saturated, complex color and surface descended upon me like an avalanche of need. I needed deep, rich color and texture with a sensuous touch. I wanted to provide not only a glorious visual experience, but also, the experience of touch. I want to share with gallery goers the artists experience of the joy of engagement with materials.
