I have wanted to be an artist since I was five. I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts from Central Michigan University in 2000 and my Master of Fine Arts from Maine College of Art in 2006. My graduate work, and the work I did for several years after school featured small cardboard houses, which I then photographed out in the world creating a little glimpse into a tiny perfect interior space. Fast forward a number of years and I was settled in with my husband and two boys in our house in Shepherd, Michigan. At this time, I returned to painting in both oil and watercolor creating series of bizarre landscapes featuring houses as the main occupants.
Throughout all my work, a sense of whimsy and a vivid pallet of eye-catching color has remained intact. My current watercolor rampage has led me a series of children’s books featuring three little birds and a host of other interesting animals in various biomes that the birds travel to on their magic boat. Work comes from work was a mantra we heard in graduate school quite often, but I have found it to be a good practice. At a loss, for ideas? Just keep making art and the ideas will flow!
