Artist: Anne Cleary
My work is inspired by the natural world and spending time outside.
I work with oils and spray paint and sometimes watercolor, ink and gouache, creating paintings that are layered made up worlds of stacked landscapes, flowers, lakes, oceans, and woods. My work is an emotional reaction to nature.
I am interested in the complex and varied emotionality of places, and the meanings we attach to them, how we feel about them. My work consists of reflections of interior worlds i. e. psychological and emotional spaces, rooted in the very real natural world. I am interested in capturing imaginative sacred spaces as they are revealed to me, to understand a little bit more about human nature and its relationship to the natural world. Discovery happens along the way, and well after the completion of a piece.
Creating art frees me. It is exciting and it allows me to enter fully into a sacred space. It is a powerful pull from somewhere unknown, from unseen guides. It’s my job as an artist to remain open and pursuant of the journey of making art in whatever form to understand a little bit more about myself, others, and how we fit into the world.
