Statement
My art practice is rooted in painting as a vehicle for emotional transformation, human connection, and psychological depth. I create vivid, dynamic works that explore themes of resilience, vulnerability, introspection, and personal transmutation. Through bold color relationships, layered surfaces, and expressive figurative elements. I aim to produce work that feels both intimate and expansive, inviting viewers into a moment of reflection while allowing space for their own interpretation.
I primarily work in oil and acrylic on canvas and panel, with watercolor serving as both a standalone medium and a developmental tool within my process. My larger works in oil and acrylic allow for physical layering and surface manipulation. I often begin with preliminary sketches, either in a sketchbook or digitally I refine composition and emotional tone. From there, I prepare the surface with a toned ground, which establishes a unifying undertone and influences the atmosphere of the piece from the outset.
My painting process is additive and iterative. I build compositions through successive layers, blocking in major forms before gradually refining structure, gesture, and light. Edges are intentionally manipulated, softened, sharpened, or obscured giving a guide to the viewer’s eye and reinforcing psychological tension. Color functions as both structure and symbolism in my work; I intentionally select palettes that heighten emotional contrast and reinforce narrative subtext.
Portraiture and figurative forms frequently anchor my compositions, but I integrate abstraction, pattern, and atmospheric elements to move beyond literal representation. I am less concerned with realism and more invested in evoking internal states trying to capture the unseen emotional layers beneath physical presence.
