I am an artist working from my studio on the Central Coast of New South Wales in Australia. I completed my studies in Visual and Applied Arts at North Adelaide School of Art in 1994, now a part of Uni SA. I moved from South Australia to San Jose, California in 1996 with my husband and devoted most of my energies to supporting my growing family. After 15 years, we are back in Australia, my family is grown and busy and I have more time and creative energy to engage my arts practice fully.
I have continued to create and am grateful to have been able to study with talented artists over the years.
I have exhibited both in NSW and SA and my work is held in collections both in Australia and the United States.
I find myself drawn to create in an expressive way that crosses between abstraction and figuration. I find this allows me to express myself freely and to connect with myself, my subject, object or memory.
Statement
I am drawn to painting as a vehicle from which to explore and express myself and for the pure enjoyment of my materials. I enjoy the thrill of discovery, the back and forth of finding the right pathway of feeling for the immediate work and my present state of being. Adding and subtracting, relating differing elements to each other, building a history of time in paint, charcoal, collage and canvas. Work often begins by a flash of inspiration used to get things going, this inspiration could come from any object, space, thought or feeling. I work in an expressive manner combining my intuitive energies with an understanding and consideration of more formal design properties. The painting always has the last word.
