2020 Butterflies
This collection was produced during the Covid-19 pandemic shut down. Each butterfly is an experiment in repetition with a mixed media process inspired by an exercise in the Paint Mojo book by Tracy Verdugo. Each one begins with color, layered with writing, drawn shapes, and gel printed papers, and finished off with more paint and drawing. The process is the same for each, and every piece is uniquely individual.
Ambiguous Interruption
This collection is about the confusion and mixed messages swirling around the world in the last few years of this pandemic. The media was giving so much contradicting information, medical advice was changing daily, science was discovering new things continually, fear seemed to be widespread. These pieces are about the layers of life that we've been building upon and suddenly there is this interruption that is hard to define. I kind of imagined the phrase "the sky is falling" but was it? Or was it more like like a flash flood that might turn into a trickle? Ambiguous seemed to be a fitting word for this visual. The pandemic felt ambiguous to me and it was an interruption to everything, for everyone.
Imagine a Place
These mixed media paintings were inspired by a visit to Walt Disney World in Florida when I was only 5 years old. My favorite memory of the trip was going into the Tomorrowland area of the park and seeing all the possibilities of what the future could be.
