MessageTony Hyden is a contemporary fine art painter and modernist ceramic sculptor based in Austin, Texas. Born in 1974, he is celebrated for his evocative original paintings, including unique watercolors, acrylic, and oil pieces, as well as his completely unique and decorative ceramic sculptures. Hyden’s work is driven by a lifelong passion for form and line, an impulse that has guided his creative output since his youth. His artistic process is rooted in a hands-on approach, working with materials best suited for each project to bring his ideas from concept to a tangible object.
Hyden’s artistic style is influenced by a diverse range of sources, from historical design and rapidly evolving media culture to the subtle forms found in nature. This blend of influences results in a body of work that is both a reflection of the modern world and a nod to timeless artistic principles. His paintings often explore themes of color and emotion, while his sculptural work focuses on decorative and unique forms.
Hyden’s formal training took place at The Art Institute of Dallas, where he honed his skills. Over the past twenty-six years, his multifaceted professional career has included roles as an animator, graphic designer, photographer, and art studio director. These experiences have provided him with a broad foundation in visual communication, which he applies to his fine art practice. Hyden’s dedication to his craft is evident in every piece, whether it’s an expansive painting or a meticulously crafted modernist sculpture.

Statement
These works are an exploration of line, color and discovery, designed to bring a
sense of modern whimsy and contemplation to any interior space. I enjoy the idea
of an image that reveals itself over time, attempting to surprise the viewer with a
new perspective with each viewing.
Two of these series, "Animal Icon" and "Topics in Fractal," both embody this idea as well as many of the sculptures.
In the "Animal Icon" series, I distill familiar animal faces down to their most
essential, geometric forms, creating a playful and graphic representation for a
splash of color to a room. Conversely, "Topics in Fractal," is an exploration of the
beauty of lines in a sketch and a nod to Impressionistic style.
Whether it's a bold, graphic animal face or a complex field of color, my goal is to create art that functions
as both a modern design element and a source of ongoing visual curiosity. I hope these paintings inspire
you to infuse your own sanctuary with a vibrant, contemporary spirit.
