As an artist, I hold a profound responsibility to address vital contemporary issues impacting our planet. Through this piece, I raise awareness about the endangered Grévy's Zebra.
This species faces peril due to tail hunting for ritual purposes and habitat loss driven by climate change.
To comprehend and cope with global chaos, I intricately carve lace-like sections. This technique unveils the delicate balance between fragility and strength, mirroring Earth's dynamics. It also interweaves cultural symbols, uniting concepts and events across time, emphasizing our mutual dependence and the need for equilibrium.
Arranged as ribbon-like shapes, the symbols in this painting serve as a poignant reminder of the perpetual danger encircling these animals.
As with much of my work, the final process involves carefully placing symbols that intersect cultures, objects, and moments in time. These clusters are my way of searching for balance—within the piece and within myself—amidst a chaotic world. It becomes a visual prayer, distilling complexity into a hopeful narrative of harmony and connection.
