This painting is about tuning into nature when the going gets tough.
As COVID continues to penetrate our lives in ways we never expected, it is forcing us to experience life in a different way.
The use of technology increased by 100% at the height of the pandemic. During the early phase we faced the most trying times, and I found many people attuning to things like nature, breath, neighbors...things that before were taken for granted or ignored. It felt like technology was overwhelming our very nature of existence.
Vibrant colors infuse a sense of optimism, reflecting hope rather than a depiction of despair.
To distill and process the global chaos while creating breathing space within my work and within myself, I intricately draw out sections in a lace-like formation. This not only reveals the interplay between fragility and strength, mirroring the dichotomy inherent in our planet and our relationship with it, but also intersects symbolic culture by linking concepts, cultures, objects, and events. This emphasizes our interconnectedness across time and underscores the need for a balanced coexistence because we depend on one another.
In this painting, these symbols are organized as COVID bacteria, referencing their invasion of human lives.
