Artist: James McCormick (1936-2017)
James "Jim" McCormick, a faculty member of the Art Department at University of Nevada, Reno, offered instruction in printmaking, drawing, visual foundations, art history, papermaking and other disciplines.
Although he was born in Chicago, he spent most of his youth in New York City and Tulsa, Oklahoma. In 1960 at the age of 24, he accepted a professorship from Craig Sheppard and joined the Art Department, beginning a 32-year career at the University of Nevada. For the next 56 years, the State of Nevada was his home. He loved Nevada and everything about it.
Jim engaged with the Nevada Legislature to obtain funding to create the Nevada Arts Council. He served on the board for the Funeral Consumers Alliance of Nevada, and the board and advisory board for the Nevada Museum of Art.
In his art world, Jim's first love was printmaking, followed by pen and ink sketches from his travels, and intricate collages.
