Ernest Silva was born in Rhode Island in 1949, he attended the University of Rhode Island and earned his BFA and MFA from the Tyler School of Art of Temple University. He sadly passed away on February 24, 2014. Silva was a professor at the University of California San Diego since 1979 and had just retired a year before his passing. While teaching at UCSA he taught multiple subjects like painting, drawing and sculpture among others. Silva was a known artist in San Diego and had even had an installation at the Centro Cultural Tijuana, Tijuana Mexico. Silva’s work is a mixture of his own imagination. He worked with different mediums to create multisensory works like his installation “The Rain House” at The New Children’s Museum in Downtown San Diego. Silva pulled from his own imagination hoping that his audience would understand his vision and emerge themselves within it.
