Harry Sternberg's work spans over seven decades, Bethlehem Steel (1936) represent Sternberg's powerful early drawings, down in situ at the coal and steel towns he visited in Pennsylvania as the recipient of a 1936 Guggenheim Fellowship.

Sternberg settled in Escondido where he spent the remainder of his life. This work was included in the artist's retrospective, No Sun Without Shadow: The Art of Harry Sternberg, curated by Ellen Fleurov and shown at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido (2000).
