Jen Trute was a California painter whose work explored the dramatic effects of climate change on human health and the environment. Trute suffered from a cancer diagnosis that she believed was caused by working with dangerous chemicals during her career as a storyboard illustrator.
Trute's detailed oil paintings on linen and canvas were created using traditional techniques including: multiple layers of glazing, velaturas, scumbling, and transparent optics. Her work blends classical methodology with surreal subject matter while commenting on the current human environment. "All for Baby" is a fantastic example of her style and subject matter, featuring a Barbie doll set against an apocalyptic background featuring animals transformed by pollution and toxins.
