Lois Engberg paints with oils in a realist style and is best known for her floral still lifes. Many of her works are characterized by her careful choreography of exquisite flowers accented with her unique collectibles that she's spent years acquiring. Most recently, Lois has expanded her interest to landscape painting and enjoys painting in plein air, drawing much inspiration from the beautiful Chesapeake Bay region of her home and her many travels abroad.
Lois's earliest influence came from her mother, also an artist, who instilled a love of painting and gardening from an early age. The garden's vast array of colors and textures offers her endless inspiration. Painting from life, Lois works quickly using alla prima techniques to capture the beauty and delicacy of the flowers before they fade. She enjoys the challenge of capturing their freshness with quick bold strokes while still achieving the intricacy of each bloom using both palette knife and brush.
Lois earned her Liberal Arts Degree from Salisbury University in 1981, and has devoted herself to painting full time since the sale of her home care business in 1996. She is largely self taught but has learned from masters both past and present, studying with many of today's premier artists to hone her skills. She currently paints from her studio in Salisbury, Maryland and her work can be seen in galleries throughout the east coast and in private collections across the country. She is a member of Oil Painters of America, American Women Artists and American Impressionist Society.
