This vessel comes from the Acoma tribe in New Mexico. The Acoma are known for their thin walls and prehistoric designs on their pottery, including black and white geometric pattern work, such as in this vessel. This vessel is the work of Virginia Garcia, who works alongside her husband, Marcus Garcia. Marcus has been practicing ceramics since age seventeen. They both use the traditional hand coiled method to create their wares, such as how this vessel was created. They used the traditional black and white and geometric pattern that is consistent with the Acoma in this vessel. The bottom of the vessel is signed "V. Stevens, Acoma, N.M."
