I look at this and it looks like a charcoal drawing not mixed media. But it is.
Starting with a vine charcoal I lightly sketched in the profile using a square. (The full technique was awe some, I totally got it.) Then erasing un needed lines. And then spraying with water. This acts as some sort of fixative once dry. Doing this a couple of times and letting it dry thoroughly in between.
And then doing a couple of layers with gesso and then wet draw with a brush with charcoal and water. Yeah, painting with that and then smearing and doing it again. It was a lot of fun. I lost the proportions darn it! And she is way too dark. She was meant to be done ever so lightly and gently.
Anyway she was fun. You can see the edge that the tape left from taping it down. I like it, it gives it like a boarder and makes a really nice floated piece. Also you can see the deckled edge and the Arches watermark. Or it might be buried under the gesso.
