Teresa Beyer
Santa Cruz, California
I began painting in watercolor in 98. What you are experiencing here, is my exploring and experimenting with a variety of mediums and substrates.
MessageMy journey as an artist began while on a drive with my young family from California to Utah to do some camping. Captivated by Utah's beauty, upon my return I became obsessed with painting Utah's Delicate Arch. From that time forward, painting has been an essential part of my life.
I began painting in watercolor in '98' after mastering techniques in watercolor I became curious about other mediums and slowly began exploring and experimenting with a variety of mediums and substrates. And that is what you are experiencing here. Creating a cacophony of fine art. You'll find watercolors, acrylic, collage, cold wax, oil, graphite and charcoal.
Now I'm finding and learning that the different mediums compliment different subjects. A watercolor might be perfect for a floral with its light translucency and delicate petals, I would paint realistically. Where as an oil and cold wax piece might be better suited for a heavily textured or abstract piece.
The abstracts have challenged me. One might think they are simple expressions of emotions. That's how I start, but much like seeing images in clouds that is what happens to me! I start seeing images, while looking and considering the work. Then I develop what I see. And it's no longer an abstract. So for the most part, my abstracts are semi abstracts.
In my studio at Liquid Color, I am joined by my two Main Coons, Tigger and Roo, and Dora the cat. I value being part of a community of artist brought together by our shared love of art. Here in the Santa Cruz area, I find inspiration in the beautiful coastline and rugged natural beauty. Now being able to pursue my dream of being a full time artist, joy has flooded back into my life.
Teresa is always keeping the brushes wet and continuing to explore and experiment with new mediums.
