Tennille Dix
Quiogue, New York
My creative vision was shaped by the beauty of nature in the nine different countries I have lived in throughout my life.
MessageTennille Dix has experienced a worldwide journey, beginning in her childhood home in Quiogue on the eastern shores of Long Island where she descended from an artistic family that surrounded her with art and creativity.
At 18 she started her own clothing line, leading to a commission to design for Oleg Cassini. When her designs were displayed in Lord and Taylor windows, she decided to pursue her career by enrolling in the Traphagen School of Design in New York
During the 1980’s she launched Tennille Designs, highlighting her unique decorative interior accessories. These were featured in international magazines and sold in some of the most prestigious stores such as Asprey’s, Harrods, Fortnam&Mason, Scully&Scully and Newman Marcus, garnering her an international reputation. Her works were collected by Royalty.
Of late, Tennille has turned her voice and passion into painting abstractly and intuitively, using Venetian plaster ,gold and silver leaf, acrylics and oils. Her creative vision spans life experiences in nine countries where she has resided: USA,Switzerland,Mexico,France,HongKong,Australia, United Kingdom,Ireland,Canada. The Australian sunsets, the tireless buzz and colors of Hong Kong, the infinite white landscapes of Canada, and the endless beaches of Long Island all have had an influence in how she goes about creating her works of art that imbed and juxtapose color, light, movement and nature’s shapes.
Statement
Painting abstractly is a journey into the unknown,an adventure of discovery. It allows you to dream and imagine. You never know where it will take you.
My paintings always start with many layers, then dynamic gestures of movement, color, unpredictable shapes and patterns materialize. I then respond to what is happening in front of me.
The meaning of a piece only becomes apparent at the end. It’s like finding a secret message that you unknowingly sent yourself.
This is my adventure now and if I can move one person with my art my journey was worth it.
My art captures visual snapshots of the elements that surround us,focusing heavily on texture and the relationships between shapes. Each piece is meant to evoke a sense of calm, contemplation, and freedom, much like the etheral palette I work with.
