Linda Carney x
Linda Carney’s watercolours and drawings in the TAG collection capture the architecture and typical street scene of northern Ontario. Linda is a well-known watercolourist who now resides in Medicine Hat, Alberta, but in the 1970’s she and her husband resided in Haileybury. Linda says, at that time, she worked outside. She set up her easel and did fast oil sketches, even carrying on in the rain with the oils unaffected by the water.
These early drawings and watercolours reflect the spirit of the places around her. Her work continues to focus on the environment and the dangers that threaten it. She has exhibited in numerous solo and group shows throughout Alberta and across Canada, including an interprovincial traveling exhibition, Small is All by the Alberta Society of Arts (ASA). She has won many awards and her art is in a number of public collections including the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour and Medicine Hat College. She is a full member of the ASA, Medicine Hat.
Linda shared some of her thoughts on her time as an artist in northern Ontario saying; "I loved the beauty here and the charm of small towns; especially the character of a mining town. I did most of my drawing and painting in Cobalt; I was able to sketch and paint from the sidewalks without disruption. I have happy memories of living in northern Ontario. I had the time and freedom to explore my art, before my son arrived in 1970. The NOAA was a wonderful organization as artists aspired to be successful in its juried exhibitions. I earned the right to use the NOAA letters after my name but as I moved away and never returned to northern Ontario, I never have." -Linda Carney

» -Linda Carney
