Tasha Nichole (King) lives and works in Sacramento, CA. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Finance in 2002 at Sacramento State University, CA. King started painting as a way to heal after reaching a state of burnout and depression in 2018. She worked in state government service for 15 years and was at a crossroads in her life, feeling lost and unsure of her purpose. Depression was her journey of transformation where she answered her calling to become a visual artist.
Her group exhibitions include Emotions Embodied: Abstractions from the West Coast 2021 at Art Scene West, Solana Beach, CA, Slice at Pence Gallery, Davis, CA and Activism Through The Arts presented by Sacramento General Congress of Women at Crocker Art Museum, Sacramento, CA. Black Artists On Art: Past, Present, Future at Crocker Art Museum, Sacramento, CA.
Her artwork has been featured in BLK Voices Magazine Joy Issue #5 (2021), Abstractions Magazine Issue #1 (2021) and at the Golden One Center and Sacramento Kings Game for Black History Month (2022).
King paints what she feels not what she sees. She’s simply the vessel painting people's emotional stories. By releasing these feelings and emotions through her hands and transmuting the energy of her soul to the canvas, she visually depicts the voice of the voiceless and sets them free. Her paintings are multilayered examining the feelings buried underneath. Since her paintings are abstract she holds space for the viewer to have their own experience with the piece. What rises to the surface within oneself reveals what they need taking them on a journey inward. Her paintings evoke a spiritual connection, stirs the soul and awakens the senses to captivate the healing energy of love.
If emotions were an image, what would it look like? How do these emotions harmonize together? What needs to be resolved? These are questions I explore in my paintings.
My mission is to spread love, light and help others heal through art. I wish to leave more beauty in the world so that others can experience joy, happiness, love, and peace. May my art touch your heart and soul, offer healing through my story and be a source of inspiration and empowerment for others to follow their path.
