A parkland lime tree on the National Trust for Scotland House of the Binns estate in West Lothian. The trees there grow in quite exposed windy conditions but have lots of space to stretch into. In this plein air drawing I wanted to capture the way the tree responds to its surroundings, throwing branches out wide and low for maximum access to the summer sun, creating dramatic twists in the trunk and buttressed roots for stability.
