It is thought that this lake was part of a great river system that dried up over 5 million years ago. I have seen it in flood only once, in January 2006 when 233millimetres of rain fell in Lake Grace. We chartered a plane and flew over the floodwaters and watched the water make its way across our wide flat landscape in a pathway that is as ancient as the earth. We observed as far north as the Corrigin - Kondinin rd which was where the volume water had got to, by the 12th of February, filling each lake as it went, inching its way towards the coast .
