Eclectic Collection Series Statement
This painting began with charcoal sketches of still life objects, which were gradually simplified and reconstructed using blocks of colour. A final layer of winding, path-like bands overlay the composition, creating window-like spaces, creating intimate scenes within a landscape.
Like Gorky who found deep inspiration in gardens and the natural world, I’m drawn to organic pathways and the sense of movement they evoke. These painted paths suggest a slow walk through space – circling, sensing and seeing from shifting perspectives.
Tonal shifts in colour alter the balance between background and foreground, allowing the layers to oscillate and change. Where perception is guided by the weight of colour allowing us to create our own story whilst travelling through the space.
