My paintings are simultaneous explorations of what I see, where I’ve been and how I want to feel. Like me, they are multilayered, complex and full of surprises.
MessageCollection: Second Chance/Take Two
We all need second chances. In life, in relationships, in the ways we see ourselves and the world around us. My painting practice reflects this idea—offering past works the opportunity to grow, shift, and become something new.
As an emerging artist, I am constantly evolving, and my work evolves with me. In Second Chance/Take Two, I return to paintings I once considered complete—some even previously exhibited—and build upon them with fresh ideas and perspectives. By working back into these pieces, I create layered compositions that honour the past while embracing change. Traces of the original remain visible, much like the way our past experiences shape us, even as we move forward.
This process is not just conceptual; it is also practical. Art materials are expensive, and rather than discarding works that no longer resonate, I choose to transform them. This approach speaks to sustainability, both in art and in life—recognizing the potential for renewal rather than erasure.
These works become a chronicle of growth, resilience, and reinvention. The resulting surfaces, rich with multiple layers and time periods, invite the viewer to reflect on their own experiences of change and second chances.
