The house had a bathroom with a floor length window looking into the garden and the nikau palms beyond. Lush, entirely private, the outside pressing right up against the glass. You could be hidden and open at the same time, submerged in warm water while the trees filled the frame.

This painting, the namesake of the whole series, grew from that particular sensation; the boundary between inside and outside dissolving, green in every direction, the quiet luxury of being held by a place.
