Marbles and Jacks by Suzanne Reed Fine, Image 1.
“Marbles and Jacks” 30”x22” Acrylic on paper A few years ago, my brother and I found a box of old games, including some jacks a collection of old glass marbles in the basement of our grandparents house. We reminisced about various games with them, but for me it was more about collecting the cool colors. I liked the opaque ones the best as they seemed more unique. But then, the milky colors ribboned through the clear ones would cast prism reflections of light onto the ground beneath them, which the solid ones couldn’t do. This is a playful painting with fun colors and transparent glazes over each other, similar to a watercolor technique. Having both opaque and transparent areas have been incorporated in my paintings.
