Each night as the sun goes down, the row of large gumtrees opposite my home are backlit in an awe inspiring display. It varies from night to night and through the seasons. Some nights the orange and red are so intense I cannot help but stare as if the bush is on fire. Other evenings I am caught off guard by the majestic lilac and mauve that I never thought could be found in the night sky. The silhouette of the trees breaks up the colour giving just glimpses of intensity, as if the natural landscape is protecting the viewer from too much wonder at the one time. My paintings in this series reflect how I feel when viewing this wonder.
