Susanne Herbold (born 1970) lives and works in Cologne and on Mallorca. Herbold’s passion for painting was already kindled in her childhood, but initially took a back seat to her professional career. She completed a Bachelor of Tourism (CCI) with honors and immersed herself in the fields of travel, tourism and later the automotive industry. At the same time, she ensured that her art gained visibility, so that her work reached an ever larger audience, which led to increasing demand. Today, Herbold lives her vocation as a full-time artist.

Her artistic expression is rooted in abstraction and – in times of sensory overload – is consciously characterised by purism and reduction. She mostly uses bold colours and composes them expressively through alternating applications of paint, contrasts and striking brushwork. The depth of life, which finds expression in her works through many layers, correlates with her artistic expression and, for the artist, also represents the basis for true beauty in life. Her mixed-technique imagery tells a contemporary story of contemplation and awareness. Glimpses of nature and familiar forms appear here and there, while the majority of her work remains visual and associative and is always filled with light.

Her art has been exhibited in numerous galleries and art fairs across the world, including Germany, Italy, Spain, and the United States, particularly in New York and Miami. Her art makes part of several private collections.and was recognized and awarded. She was also featured in the “International Contemporary Masters XV”, an annual publication by the World Wide Art Books that celebrates emerging artists.

In my artistic work, I focus primarily on the positive aspects of life: a central aspect here is beauty, which manifests itself in many variations, be it in the colors of nature and the sounds of music, or in the depth of life itself. A life that we create ourselves. We are shaped by our own experiences and values and the influence that comes from outside. These complex structures determine our actions and shape our present – our “experience of life”.

We have learned that it is more desirable to achieve goals without detours. But life also includes obstacles, sometimes even breaks. These make it clear to us what we prefer in the future and therefore act as signposts offering us a different direction. The sum of all these experiences gives our life the depth and beauty that finds its expression in uniqueness. My creative process is inspired by this very uniqueness and the tension between harmony and chaos. My mostly large-format, abstract works reflect these different levels and would like to invite you to change your perspective and become your own observer – and thus give your own awareness more space.

Every change of perspective contains the gift of reminding us of our own autonomy: we always have the choice of what decisions we make, what attitude we adopt and what we surround ourselves with every day. We have the ability to transform challenges into opportunities and grow from them. Life is precious and always changing – and in its very own flow. The more we perceive this, the more the beauty of our lives reveals itself.
