Artist Statement – Kitty Couture
A young girl faces the viewer in a patterned dress and oversized white bow, her cat perched on top like an unlikely accessory. Dress, bow, and the floral ground behind her read as layered textiles, clothes against wallpaper that create a quiet, constructed world around her. Inside all of this, her steady, slightly wary gaze holds its own. The piece looks at how what is worn—dress, bow, even the cat—quietly shapes her identity and how she is seen.
