"Mexican Shawl" -- 20" x 16" -- Oil -- 1992
Color harmony is important to me, whether in a landscape, floral, or figurative subject. In this older painting, I left the washes in the background in place - you can see the drips in places - because they worked with the colors in the more developed areas of the painting. Now, I'm more likely to develop the background and use more opaque paint from the start because I still relate the other colors to it.
