"Sometimes I call my style of painting "playing in the paint". When I do, I'm using the paint quality, brushstrokes and smears, to further express my reaction to the subject. In this instance, the brilliant Scotch broom was in full bloom and the surrounding grasses were alight. I used thicker applications for the blooms and created strokes that smeared the edges to keep the viewer's eye busy exploring the entire composition." --- SFG
