I love to walk at Rainham Marshes, where you can feel quite alone with the sky, the water and the reeds, listening to the bird calls and watching for wildlife hiding in the reed beds.
This was my second rendition of this scene, (now in mixed media) which I then challenged myself to try a third time, too - see version III. This version features stronger colours, gestural marks, and has a transition from a very watery and fluid, abstract foreground to a more solid (acrylic) hillside in the distance.
This painting was exhibited at the Mall Galleries, London in January 2017, in the Artists' and Illustrators' Magazine Artist of the Year Final exhibition. It was also shortlisted for the Sunday Times Watercolour Competition 2016.
Earlier this year (April 2018) it was chosen to be a part of the Viewpoints exhibition, with the Rooftop Collective, at the Espacio Gallery in Shoreditch, London.
Framed under glass, in a double off white mount and a simple maple/honey frame.
