We found these glorious lotus flowers blooming wild in the wetland ponds in Treasure Beach, St Elizabeth, Jamaica.
Having been around the area on a subject finding mission, I knew we should be able to locate these gorgeous things, but were having no luck asking for where the lotuses might be. Then one of our ladies said, "I think I know what we're doing wrong... "
She asked the next local lady "Where are the Pond Cakes?"
We were directed down the next little track between the cottages and found this amazing sight stretching before us, as far as the eye could see!
Pond Cakes is what they are called because the young seed heads can be sliced and used in stir fry etc.
This is a dreamy soft interpretation of those glowing giant flower-heads and seedbeds fading from yellow to green to purple and brownish black.
