This little crab is enjoying a feast in the yellow seaweed of a rockpool. My impressionistic interpretation, in heavy body acrylics, focusses on blocky shapes, colour and pattern. The foregound is left almost abstract, which leads the eye up the picture plane, to the close-up view of the little crustacean. The colour scheme is kept minimal. Sunlight sparkles off the the crab's shiny, wet carapace, the weeds and the water.
I love to watch small marine invertebrates and found them to be some of the most fascinating and entertaining subjects, during my years as a scuba diving instructor. This image was painted (with kind permission) using a reference photo taken by Marie Antoniou.
