The pink light in the early morning and evening is due to a build up of dust and ash in the atmosphere as a result of the dry country and bushfires. This light gives the spear grasses an unusual colouring. Spear grasses are an important part of the tropical ecosystem providing shelter and food for various animals as well as preventing erosion.
