In "How We Move" Utah artist Kevin Arthofer visualized data generated from 7 local athletes performing various sports integral to the local culture. 3000 data points generated from the athletes' movement were translated into 42 "acceleration ribbons," a term coined by the artist to describe the elongated 6ft aluminum ribbons that make up the artwork. These ribbons are assembled on a ring of bus shelters in a transportation hub near the Olympic venues the recorded movements took place.
The visual representations of each athlete's trajectory of motion, unique as a finger print, present an elegant portrait of the residents and sports activities of the area. The athletes Arthofer recruited for the project were 7-year-old mountain biker Theus Jedi Reed, Winter Sports School cross-country skier Maddie Morgan, Utah Olympic Park bobsled driver Jake Pelger, National Ability Center's hand cycler Anne Wessman, soccer coach Paco Javier, and ski jumper Kailey Bitner, who trains at Utah Olympic Park.
Artwork is attached to each of the 6 bus stops that make up the Kimball Junction Transit Center, west of the Summit County Library.
