Reverse Painting on Plexiglas is a technique based on a centuries-old practice of painting on the inside of glass vessels . In my process, I use Plexiglas instead of glass, and I use acrylic paint, as the Plexiglas and the acrylic paint are very compatible and the paint goes on smoothly and adheres well to the Plexiglas.
What I like most about this technique is that the paint is applied to the reverse side of the plexiglas but it is the front of the piece that shows, so the viewer is seeing the paint through the Plexiglas. This tends to intensify the colours and adds a high sheen but very smooth surface. The finished effect is similar to a resin-covered painting, and yet in this process, the surface is guaranteed to be smooth and the process does not involve the use of toxic resins to create it.
In this painting, I am imagining a walk through a path in the woods in winter. The sun is just disappearing, and a swirl of snowflakes is being whipped up by the wind.
