This portrait is fictional, an imaginary creature crafted through lengthy processes of assemblage, collation, painting and finishing. Employing digital painting and compositing techniques with fragments of found and collected digital imagery, a new life-like portrait composition is formed. Further layers of painting bring out the interpreted results until a photorealistic character emerges. The result is layered down as a digital archival print which is then worked over by hand with layers of pastel to create luminous colour and finishing techniques.
Made with a true high-value handmade Tesuki-Washi EchiZen Japanese paper, a highly specialised material that can reveal small marks on its surface, created by the craftsman during manufacture. These small marks and organic containments that can appear in the Kozo and Hemp fibres are embraced and incorporated into the unique value of each piece.
This piece is framed and glazed with museum grade art glass AR70.
