*I encourage you to take in the work from your own perspective. You don't have to read my interpretation of this painting to enjoy it*
Drifting began as a study of some Spanish Iris flowers my partner picked for me - at the time the rest of the painting came to me impulsively. In hindsight, I like to interpret it like this: when we close our eyes to the world, for whatever reason, we don't just shut out what we choose to. We shut out everything with it, including the beauty the world holds. But even then, we cannot separate ourselves from the sensation of being alive, of existing in and being impacted by the world. I like to think this is why the sunlight on her (my) skin is so vividly coloured. Because even though she is shutting out the beauty, she still feels the warmth.
