Dancers features a realistic rendition of three Oceanic White-tip sharks. Usually a solitary animal favouring deep seas, seeing three is a rare sight for anyone, and to see three equidistant from each other in a dance-like formation is something that only the very lucky might ever witness. It is my intention with this work that people see not only something they are unlikely to experience firsthand, but also something that they may not be open-minded to seeing beauty in, given the way sharks are so often vilified. The harmony of the ocean, to which these apex predators are so crucial to keeping in balance, needs to become associated with these animals, if the practices forcing them into endangerment and extinction are to be addressed and prevented.
A Watercolour, Acrylic and Gouache piece, 56x76 cm on 640GSM hot-press paper. These Sharks are Oceanic White-Tips, a beautiful Shark which is one of the many species that are critically endangered, due to unsustainable fishing and Shark finning practices. If possible, please support your local conservation group.
