Steven Oshatz started his career in the culturally diverse and dynamic artistic landscape of Los Angeles during the 1950s and 1960s. Studying under prominent Los Angeles expressionist artists at Otis Art Institute and Chouinard Art Institute, he found his distinctive voice and exhibited in numerous galleries in the LA area before relocating to the Pacific Northwest in 1968.
Inspired by the region’s striking natural beauty, Steven became involved in Oregon’s emerging artistic and theatrical communities. His work has been featured in more than 23 gallery exhibitions. He has completed significant collaborations integrating his visual artistry with regional performing arts groups through stage and ballet set designs, as well as local murals and multimedia productions.
Steven's mastery of acid dye printing on silk has led to custom design commissions for national museums and performing art centers. Throughout his artistic journey he has channeled his visual stories through multiple creative mediums, including paintings, photography, assemblages, drawings, and prints.
Steven continues to explore new artistic frontiers, channeling a lifetime of experience into work that blends visual storytelling with bold experimentation.
Statement
“My art spans six decades of my spiritual and creative journeys through the exploration of graphic and color relationships. It is my wish that my art inspires the imagination and awakens the senses to the textures, joys and rhythms of being alive.”
