Statement
I am an abstract artist living in Cincinnati with my husband, Shawn. We have raised two fantastic, independent daughters, Zoe and Rowan. Even though we are now technically empty nesters, we still have our two most challenging kids at home: two corgis named Stella and Harvey. My creative companions can be found most days lounging by my side as I paint.
Though I have always been creative it took the better part of my adult life to consider painting as a profession. With a degree in Education and raising two children I found many opportunities to satisfy my need to create. Once the girls were grown and headed off to college I needed to find another way to fulfill my artistic passion and that’s when I went back to what I truly love…painting.
My art is influenced by many of the other creative outlets I have pursued over the years. Starting a decorating business, vintage resale shop, jewelry making, and gardening to name a few. Inspiration for me comes from a love of nature and design. I enjoy taking the simplicity and beauty of nature, be it flowers in a garden or in a vase and moving them to canvas. Color, energy and drama are prominent in my works.
Recently I’ve been experimenting more on my new series of paintings. I’m creating abstracts and focusing on some new mediums and techniques. Gesso, paste and oil pastels are featured more in these works. Layering and scraping are also key components of this new series.
At its essence, my art is just a reflection of who I am as a person. I paint things that I enjoy and that I would want in my home or office.
