I celebrate the rich tapestry of family heritage and the enduring allure of nature's wonders. This lively piece represents spring's bounty with a vibrant bouquet of camellias, black tulips, peonies, and delicate cornflowers. The unique white vase, shaped like a Eucalyptus nut, adds character to the composition.
My heritage, steeped in a love for flowers passed down through generations of women gardeners, is the heart of this artwork. It serves as a memento mori, reminiscing about my gardens, my grandmothers', and my mother's. 'Cottage Flowers in a White Vase' is a tribute to the beauty of nature's renewal in spring. It artfully blends the rigidity of stems with the vase's organic design, creating a vivid contrast.
As I created a sculpture park filled with native trees, my mother's words echoed, "But what about flowers? You must have flowers near the house; it can't be all trees, far too stark." These words encapsulate the harmony found in the coexistence of strength and grace in nature, a sentiment that now flows through my art.
