According to the gaudiya Vaishnava tradition Radha (symbolizing jivatma), embodies madanakhya mahabhava - an intense longing for union with Krishna (symbolizing the eternal all-pervading divine). This longing is expressed as intense love that can also develop a sense “ownership” and anger for Krishna not paying attention to Radha resulting in a complex interplay of emotions that this piece tries to capture. A lot of Radha-Krishna literature/poetry is written in this Bhava. A longing that exists in everyone to varying degrees (yearning to know the ultimate reality) but few succeed in the union. Vrindavan is the cosmos, gopis are jivatmas, Radha is you, Krishna is the ultimate reality. A beautiful potential for Union that is often unfulfilled.
