Krishna tells Arjuna that all the jivatmas with bodies are my fragments (amsha) and they get captivated by the five senses and the mind in the material world.
Sri Ramanujacarya (visishthadvaita) points to several such shrutis in the Bhagavad Gita and the Upanishads that allude to bheda between the brhman and atman. These seem to contradict other maha-vakyas such as aham brahmasmi that allude to abheda between the brhman and the atman.
Our various sampradayas interpret this seeming inseparability (apruthak) of the brhman and atman of the shrutis in different ways. True nature, as our acaryas have said, can be only known through spiritual experience of one’s own journey. Such an experience perhaps transcends such intellectual road-blocks.
